Will there be a tipping point on a large scale? Hundreds of people go to sweaty punk shows. Hundreds see four or five symphonys a year. People take ballet classes and learn to sew or make soap. People go to the Marx Brothers marathon on New Year's Day at the Brattle or belong to hiking or bird watching clubs. It feels like there 10 million people actively resisting "modern life." But there are so many people, distractions and greedy companies that 10 million can feel like a drop in the bucket.
I wonder about this too. I tend to think that culture is a little bit like the ocean - big and unpredictable - and it can be hard to tell if the tide is coming in or going out at any specific moment. Are we in 1964 or 1979....who knows....
